Mattia Preti – Faith and Humanity – The Palace State Rooms, Valletta

PRETIposter withoutLOGOSInaugurated in Taverna (Calabria) on Mattia Preti’s 400th birthday, this exhibition is the product of a joint collaboration between the National Museum of Fine Arts and Museo Civico di Taverna, with paintings loaned from leading European Insitutions, including the Prado (Spain), the Louvre (Paris), Museo di Capodimonte (Naples), Musei Vaticani (the Vatican, Rome), Uffizi (Florence).

The exhibition will be on display at the PALACE STATE ROOMS till Sunday 7th July, 2013.

Opening times from 10.00hrs till 16.00hrs (last admission at 15.30hrs)

- Specialised tours by Senior Curator Sandro Debono

Senior Curator Sandro Debono will be giving quite a few interesting insights into the exhibition during three specialised tours that will be held on the 16th of May, the 13th of June, and the 4th of July.

Tickets available from all HM museums and sites. These specialised tours will commence at 19.00hrs.

Temple and Tomb: Prehistoric Malta, 3600-2500 BCE

Exhibition of funerary and ritual objects pertaining to the late temple period. Exhibition includes sculptures in stone and clay, decorative architectural reliefs, historic drawings, watercolours, and photographs.

HM Bateman: The Man who Loved Gozo

H.M. Bateman The Man who ..Exhibition of works by HM Bateman.  Focusing mainly on the watercolours he produced during his time in Gozo, the exhibition also makes reference to his output as a popular British cartoonist.

At the Ministry for Gozo.

Opening times:  Mon-Fri  8.30- 16.30hrs, last entry 16.00hrs.

Preti Workshops

Heritage Malta will be organising a number of workshops in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Mattia Preti – Faith and Humanity’ at the Palace State Rooms, Valletta.

Workshop 1  

Preti’s Manufacturing Techniques for an oil painting on CANVAS

First group on the 17th of May / Second group on the 14th of June (from 10.00 till 14.00hrs)

This workshop will be led by Heritage Malta senior conservator, Ray Spiteri, who has worked on the conservation of Preti paintings. Ray Spiteri will take participants through the manufacturing techniques behind Preti’s oil paintings on canvas. Participants will work off a preliminary drawing, mix their own colours and paint their own masterpiece after Preti. Participants will be able to take their finished work home with them.

Price: € 25. Includes all materials and a tour of the Preti exhibition. Tickets from all Heritage Malta sites and museums. Limited places available.

Workshop 2

First group on the 31st of May / Second group on the 28th of June (from 10.00 till 14.00hrs)

This workshop will be led by Heritage Malta senior conservator, Ray Spiteri, who has worked on the conservation of Preti paintings. Ray Spiteri will take participants through the manufacturing techniques behind Preti’s paintings on the vaults at St John’s co-Cathedral. Participants will work off a preliminary drawing, mix their own colours and paint their own masterpiece after Preti. Participants will be able to take their finished work home with them.

Price: € 25. Includes all materials and a tour of the Preti exhibition. Tickets from all Heritage Malta sites and museums. Limited places available.
