Spring Equinox at Mnajdra Temples

Heritage Malta is once again organising a guided tour of the Mnajdra Temples early in the morning on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st March to mark the spring equinox.

Sunrise on the first day of each season underlines the relationship between the temples and celestial bodies. Although it is not known for certain whether these orientations were intentional, they are so systematic that this is very probable. In prehistoric agricultural societies, observation of the motion of the stars, the moon and sun could have been related to the changing seasons and times of planting and harvesting crops.

In a bid to provide an enhanced experience to visitors, only a limited number of tickets will be available for this event. Tickets are available from all of Heritage Malta’s sites and museums at €15 each, while members of Heritage Malta pay €10 for their ticket.

Participants for this event will group early in the morning next to the Ħagar Qim main entrance at 05.45hrs.

For further information on this event or how to apply for Heritage Malta membership, please call on 2142 4231.
